Houjicha is a brown tea, sparkling bronze under the sunlight, made from late season tea leaves that are steamed and dried. It is roasted over a charcoal pot that lends it a crisp note of nuts. When you savour a fulfilling taste of barley with an oozing caramel ending, note that it is so pure that it is fit for little ones too. The taste lingers, for a few hours, reminding one of the luxurious breaks that the cup served.
Did you know? It is the first drink that is fed to Japanese babies. Interestingly, it follows the same procedure as roasting coffee.
