Faqs

Loose tea leaves have better aroma and flavour: Loose tea leaves have higher surface area than tea dust that makes a tea bag. Larger leaves have higher natural oil content and therefore those lend good flavour, pleasant scent, and more health benefits. Tea bags may add colour to the cup, but not provide with the aroma and taste for which tea is acclaimed across the world.

According to some researches, 5 cups of tea a day can sharpen body’s defenses against diseases. Compounds known as polyphenols naturally present in tea function as anti-oxidants. Drinking tea brewed with loose leaves is healthy for it is attributed to various health properties. L-Theanine, a type of amino acid found in tea protects the body from various viruses, bacteria, fungal and parasitic infections. Apart from this, tea is also good for weight loss, heart, overall hydration and life longevity.

Since, brewed tea is as it is made of 98% water, it helps maintain healthy fluid balance and hence can be a part of an adult’s daily intake. It contains no additives or artificial colours and is a calorie-free way of providing the body with anti-oxidants.

The magical plant, Camellia Sinensis which produces over 1000 varieties of tea contains 2.5-4% of caffeine. The highest percentage of caffeine is found in the bud of the plant. The quantity of caffeine per cup of tea is less than the caffeine in an equal cup of coffee by 10-30%. Research indicates that the human body requires a certain amount of caffeine in a day. Moreover, the presence of polyphenols in tea does not let caffeine have an unhealthy impact on the body.  According to recent findings, an intake of caffeine upto 400-450 mg does  not have an adverse effect on the body. This level of caffeine is equal to 10-12 cups of tea in a day.  Caffeine and L-Theanine acid found in tea are ideal for charging up your mind and body.

Every tea has its own brewing time and instructions that one is advised to follow. For example, most of the green teas are require 80 degree water temperature to brew properly. Apart from the kind of water you use, the water temperature and the duration of brewing, how you pour water over the leaves also plays a very important role. It is recommended to not pour hot water directly onto the leaves for it may burn them, especially if they are delicate buds. Pouring them in a circular motion ensures that the warm water does not fall onto one spot on the tea leaves, thereby burning them. Another must-follow ritual one must do, even before starting to brew the tea is warm and wash the teaware and leaves with the little water from the kettle you’ll be using.

While all types of tea are derived from the magical plant of Camellia Sinensis, each tea has its own distinct flavour, character and health benefits owing to the weather conditions, soil and altitudes it is grown in. Similarly, every tea requires to be brewed at different water temperature for different durations and for different number of times. For example, majority of Green Teas can be brewed upto 4-5 times while Tea Blends can be brewed upto 2-3 times.

According to Japanese, the right water for brewing teas should be pure, light, sweet and clean, so much that a lot of Japanese carry their own water, wherever they go. Water that is good in taste and quality can even enhance a medium quality tea. It is said that spring water is the best for brewing tea due to the mineral content in it which enhances the aroma of the tea, add a complex taste to the tea.

Almost all TDT’s loose tea leaves can be steeped multiple times. Only the number of steeping times and duration for each category of tea differs. Re-brewing or re-steeping can bring out the actual value of loose tea leaves and give you multiple servings from the same quantity of leaves.

Usually, green teas, black teas, Oolong and Herbal teas can be brewed upto 4-5 times while Tea Blends can be brewed upto 3-4 times.

Tea is instrumental in hydrating the body due to its anti-oxidant count.  These anti-oxidants prevent the body cells from any kind of damage, strengthen the immune system and promote anti-aging. These anti-oxidants also contribute to oral and cardiovascular health as well as cholesterol control. It is a known fact that Green Teas are good for weight loss but other varieties such as Pu’er and Oolong also contribute significantly to slimming and digestion. Herbal teas significantly contribute to skin and hair health.

Teas also help fight free radicals and hence known for anti-cancer properties. A lot of mental conditions such as stress, depression, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s can be prevented by regular tea consumption.

Antioxidants are components which help to protect cells from harmful “free radicals”, known as oxidants. Free radicals occur naturally in the body as a by-product of the respiration process and can bring about cell damage. Antioxidants help to prevent this cell damage, which can contribute to ageing and a number of chronic diseases, including cancer and heart disease and strokes.

Since tea contains 98% water, it helps maintain fluid balance and flushes out the toxins from the body. Green Tea is especially known to boost metabolism and make us burn calories even when we’re resting. It contains catechins which are water-soluble polyphenols that contribute to anti-aging, heart health, dental health, cholesterol control and most notably, weight loss.

Another tea variety known as Pu’er is often touted as China’s best weight loss secret. A metabolism booster, the consumption of this variety is recommended post meals since it aids digestion, especially the spleen and stomach. With consistent exercise and daily consumption of Pu’er Tea, you will start seeing results in weight loss soon.

Another variety known as Oolong also contributes to weight loss. The best time to drink Oolong Tea is in the morning since it improves metabolism and mental alertness. It is known to contain more anti-oxidants than even Green Tea and often associated with regulation of blood sugar, cholesterol and weight loss.

To reap the benefits of drinking tea, it’s best to not add any milk or sugar to your brewed cup and use loose tea leaves instead of tea bags.

Ever wondered the secret behind the life longevity of Japanese people? Green Tea.

The Japanese population swears by Green Tea for keeping their skin ageless and wrinkle-free and hair healthy. According to research by some scientists, the lifespan of Japanese is slightly longer than that of the rest of the world population.

Packed with anti-oxidants, Green Teas prevent any signs of aging such as wrinkles, sun damage, expression lines and even skin cancer. It also significantly contributes to improved function at daily activities.

Our Art Tea is essentially Pu’er Tea compressed in cake forms and moulded in various interesting shapes such as boat, football, pot, etc. These teas come in different sizes varying from 5 kgs, 18 kgs and even 58 kgs and meant to add to the beauty of your living room or as a royal gift to someone you regard highly.

Pu’er Tea ages like wine and only gets better with age. Hence, it can be stored for years. While these teas are perfectly fine for consumption, we’d recommend you to let others appreciate its beauty in your home instead of savouring it.

Platine, Or, Argent and Bronze are the different grades of TDT’s teas. Platine (Platinum) is the highest grade, followed by Or (Gold), Argent (Silver) and eventually, Bronze. The grade of every tea is determined by the quality of tea leaves and their source. A lot of teas grown at high-altitudes generally fall in Grade A  i.e Platine since they contain the highest level of anti-oxidants, rarely produced, untouched by any pollution and highest in health content.

Teas must be stored in an airtight container or in cool places, to avoid contact with moisture, direct sunlight or odour. Our airtight TDT tins come handy for storing your teas safely and preserving their aroma.

Green Tea has a slightly astringent taste and only turns bitter when brewed incorrectly. While majority of green teas can be brewed upto 4-5 times, the brewing time differs on every brew. Simply follow the instructions correctly to reap the benefits of Green Tea and actually enjoy its taste.

There are 2 methods to brew Iced Teas. If you wish to consume your TDT Iced Tea on the spot, simply dip our Iced Tea bag in 300 ml hot water of the mentioned temperature for the mentioned duration. Let it sit for 7 minutes. Add 6-7 ice cubes, sugar/ honey as per taste and enjoy.

However, if you wish to consume or serve Iced Tea later, simply dip the TDT Iced Tea Bag in 350 ml cold water, refrigerate for 10 hours, add sugar/honey as per taste and enjoy.

While being allergic to tea is extremely rare, people react differently to caffeine. Some people can be sensitive to caffeine and the symptoms of it may be as follows: Nervousness, uneasiness, stomach problems. People with severe heart condition of heart rhythm abnormality are recommended to avoid daily intake of caffeine.

No evidence has been found regarding the consumption of moderate caffeine leading to abortion, growth retention or other pregnancy problems. Caffeine consumption equivalent to 2-3 cups per day does not affect child development or the health of expecting mothers negatively. However, women sensitive to caffeine may get affected. As a result, moderate consumption of approximately 2-3 cups a day, is recommended for women during pregnancy.

TDT still recommends expecting mothers to consult their doctors before consumption of the teas to avoid any complications.
